Course description:
|
This course includes a survey of computers and computer systems, with applications for business and social sciences. The main components of the Microsoft Office 2007 Suite will be covered: Word, Excel and PowerPoint as well as Adobe Dreamweaver. |
Objectives: | understand the power and use of information in our technological society understand some of the ethical issues involved in processing and using information understand how a computer works understand and adhere to the University computing policy develop competency in file management, word processing, spreadsheets, e-mail, and Internet packages with a focus on applications for business and social sciences develop problem-solving techniques employing software applications; e.g., design of a spreadsheet, creating and interpreting a chart develop competency in Web page creation

Assignments: | This course is a survey, which means it covers a lot of information, but not too deeply in any one area. As a result, there will be projects and tests that you might be able to complete already. Allowances will be made to submit work in class, or to take more time outside of class as you need it. You will complete 3 Word lab assignments, 1 Word test 4 Excel lab assignments, 1 Excel test 3 PowerPoint lab assignments, 1 PowerPoint test 2 HTML/Dreamweaver lab assignments, 1 HTML/Dreamweaver test 1 final exam Tests and the exam will include both written and hands-on portions. Test material will cover the textbooks and other class and online materials.

Professionalism: | Any course in college
includes elements of professional behavior. Just as if you were “on
the job,” I expect you to attend class. Roll will be taken at each
class meeting. For any absence to be excused you must contact me beforehand
and provide documentation of your excuse or have a friend do so if you are
unable. Given normal extenuating circumstances, you will be allowed two unexcused class absences. Further unexcused absences, or excessive excused
absences may lower your final grade. Assignments missed due to excused absences can be made up, but those missed due to unexcused absences cannot. Adjustments to this document are to be allowed for, if not expected. You are responsible for following the University’s and this class’s policies on submission of original work and acknowledgement of direct quotations or paraphrases from others’ writings (see the La Salle University Student Handbook).
