308/COM 402 Feature Writing: Editing 9/3/02
The general rule for word abbreviations is that AP abbreviates words (months, street types, states) if they are more than five letters. AP generally uses numerals (e.g. 10) for numbers greater than nine, but uses numerals for things that are counted or measured such as age, dollars, temperature, time, weight, length, depth and height even if they are less than 10. Feel free to borrow the Stylebook in lab. There is also one in the reference section of the library. Remember to ask during this week’s class. If you have any remaining questions, mark them in the file or at the end of the file. The important things are for the style to be consistent and for you to at a minimum notice where there might be a correction needed. Please hand
in printed copy as well, double-spaced.
