COM 402/ENG 308 Final Web group project 12/3/02

Each of the three groups (of 4 or 5) is responsible for producing by next Tuesday at 6 p.m. a folder on a Zip disk that contains the html files and images for your set of 4 or 5 stories. (Please return the marked-up copies of your stories at that time.) You may arrange the pages any way you would like, but try and make them consistent with the design of the opening page Joe showed last week (colors, books or related graphic, placement of links).

Start with a page (index.htm) that introduces your "issue" of La Salle Stories, (other suggestions welcome) maybe with a headline and blurb for each, and that links to your profiles. For ideas look at the course links under College Sites or Other Designs (e.g. rivertrout.com).

Each "issue" must have cleanly edited stories with photos (at least one of each person except Evette's!) and other graphics (more photos?) as needed, links to sites mentioned by or related to the person (relevant La Salle sites, departments?), navigation to get around within the issue, and use of appropriate devices to "Web" your text. Suggestions from an earlier class (see also Web Writing links):

  • embedded links
  • sidebar links
  • linked photos
  • text chunks (<100 words)
  • scrolling pages
  • Next/last pages
  • email links
  • links to CVs etc.
  • headlines
  • subheds in the text
  • use of color in text
  • short, active writing (no need to change much)
  • use of columns/table/iframes/framesets
  • pull quotes
  • serif/readable fonts
  • etc.

Remember that this is a writing not a Web design class. I want to see that you have the stories "Webbed" in a thoughtful way. I also want to see that, as at a small publication/Web site, you can delegate tasks and work efficiently in a short time span. I'll assess the future of the site itself when I see what we've got. Extra credit if your group has FTPed the pages to see if everything works live on the Web.

Due Dec. 10 at 6 p.m.
