Fonts assignment

COM356/ENG 310
3/28/19

eye test

Place fonts that you see from our lab computers in the Font Categories described in class. (These might differ a bit if you use Creative Cloud from another computer—if so, let me know.) Put fonts in only one category, where they are most appropriate. Make boxes with 1-point borders in InDesign (you'll need 12). In the last box, type your name. The 11 categories are:

  1. Oldstyle serif
  2. Transitional serif (hard to tell)
  3. Modern serif
  4. Slab serif
  5. Sans-serif
  6. Script
  7. Cursive
  8. Monospaced
  9. Blackletter (text, old English)
  10. Novelty (fantasy, decorative)
  11. Dingbats or symbols (ornaments)

Full credit for filling the column if you can. You should have at least 20 in total. Double-space them. Some of these might only have a few examples, but they all have at least one, and you'll get more credit for more correct examples. And sometimes the names might be contradictory (e.g. Comic Sans is most appropriate as Novelty).

Put font names in their own typefaces, e.g. : Comic Sans

Old style

Garamond

Due next Thursday, April 4 on paper. You will be able to print in this lab if you bring a USB and go to the back computer.
