For updates on logins check trouble sheet in Wister. When your password is reset, use telnet and Filezilla to create and check on your public_html directory. Today’s topic is searching, and sources. Here are some links that add to the readings. We’ll look at these in class:

Be sure from class or readings that you understand:
- An archive of old and new browsers you can test at evolt.org
- A page to get stats on use of browser, resolutions, color-bit depth, etc. (but only for its own site) at TheCounter.
- Search engines and how to use them from SearchEngineWatch, the site about search engines.
- A useful series of articles on search engines from About.com
- Try some specialty searches in search.com from c|net, and try a meta-search engine such as Dogpile or The Mother of All Search Engines.
To get you started on HTML and the Handcoded pages assignment we’ll start a basic HTML page today.
- Boolean searches (AND, OR, NOT, +/-)
- Phrase or string searching ("two words" {two words})
- Proximity searches (word1 w/5 word2)
- Wild cards and truncation (wom?n and develop*)
- Synonym searching (new on Google: food ~facts)
