You will work in three groups to redesign (or re-create) in InDesign either
- Pennsylvania Pharmacist: http://www.papharmacists.com
- Pennsylvania Dental Journal: http://www.padental.org
- Law association magazines from Pennsylvania, Texas and Virginia. The latter is most in need of work, but any of these can be used as a redesign/duplicating challenge.
The dental journal is arguably in better shape, but they all could do with a new look and other improvements.
Requirements:
- Cover page with new nameplate
- Table of contents page
- At least two feature articles, one of which must jump to a back page
- At least four departments
- Real heds and subheds for features and departments; real pull quotes, folio, bylines, jump lines, jump heds, photo credits, captions. Use placeholder text (Type menu -> Fill with placeholder text) for body text.
- A masthead
- House ads to fill pages as needed (recommended)
- Back cover, other commercial ads (can be mocked up or scanned and imported)
- 16 pages
- Report on what design and content decisions were made and why, with reference to the old design and to readership, and using language of design principles
- Printed style guide documenting specs for:
- cover
- nameplate
- page/grid structures
- folio
- body text
- bylines
- endmarks
- other dingbats
- captions
- jump lines/heds
- ToC
- masthead/other special pages
- feature page heds/subheds
- department page heds/subheds
- pull quotes
- author bio
