One package for editing image files is Microsoft Photo Editor. First you start Photo Editor. You may find it directly under Start/Programs. Or it may be in the Microsoft Office Folder. Then you open the image file you wish to edit (File/Open).
Photo Editor has certain basic features, for instance
You can brighten or darken an image by clicking on the button that looks like a sun.
You can turn a certain color or range of colors transparent by using the button to the right of the one with the sun. You click on that button and then on a region of your image that is the color you want to make transparent. When we made designs in PowerPoint, they often had white backgrounds. You can use this feature to get rid of the background. Then if the .gif file is placed on a webpage, the transparent color becomes the color (or texture) of the webpage.
Photo Editor also has a number of Effects. For example, it can interpret your image with stained-glass effect.
