Project: The format is open. I have had people write papers, and one guy made a how-to video. But
the most common formats are instructions and or lab. If you are going the instructions/lab approach then
someone following the instructions or doing the lab should take about 20 minutes -- not counting just
waiting for something to download, install or update -- but 20 minutes of engaged interactivity.
People have examined aspects of Windows or Ubuntu not covered in class or installed (and compared) other
operating systems. One guy who was into music showed how to add a lot of music related hardware and
software (which shows how you can combine some related ideas to achieve a reasonable length). I have
allowed people to do subjects that were more appropriate for a server course -- like Active Directory or
VPNs. (But I will check that you are not handing me the same project as you did in some other course.)
