Course Description
CSC 151 is an introduction to “computer literacy.”  Topics include: e-mail, Fundamental Computer Concepts, Operating Systems, File Management, Word-processing, Spreadsheets, Presentations, WebPages, Information Literacy, Object Linking and Embedding, Legal and ethical issues.

Electronic Communication
All class information and communication, including mail, news, labs, assignments, exam news, class notes, etc., will be available through WebCT.  This is accessible via the mylasalle portal, the class website, or directly at mycourses.lasalle.edu:8700  It is your responsibility to check the class site daily!

Software
Windows 2000, Microsoft Office 2003: WORD, Excel, PowerPoint, Notes iMail, Internet Explorer, WebCT

Data Disks & Backup
Students must have at least two 3.5" HD diskettes.  Backup all essential assignments onto either a floppy disk, and/or your network folder. A zip or flash memory device is highly recommended!

Grading
Concept Assignments, computer lab participation/exercises, and tests: 35% of final grade
Weekly concept exercises and tests, mostly based on the Discovering Computes text, but also including topics such as web searching and legal and ethical issues in the use of technology

MSOffice assignments: 65% of final grade
10 homework assignments based on one or more Microsoft Office applications
Late MS_Office assignments will have 50 points deducted for each weekday late before grading
Each student must do his/her own work on the submitted version of an assignment
