Course Description
CSC 151 is an introduction to “computer literacy.” Topics include: e-mail, Fundamental Computer Concepts, Operating Systems, File Management, Word-processing, Spreadsheets, Presentations, WebPages, Information Literacy, Object Linking and Embedding, Legal and ethical issues.
Math and Science spreadsheet applications include: Using Built-In functions, Graphing Data, Graphing Functions, Solving Equations, Spreadsheet calculus, Regression Analysis, Matrix operations.
Electronic Communication
All class information and communication, including mail, news, labs, assignments, exam news, class notes, grades, etc., will be available through WebCT . Access WebCT via the mylasalle portal. It is your responsibility to check the class site daily!
Software
Windows XP, Notes iMail, Internet Explorer, WebCT, MS Office 2003: WORD, Excel, PowerPoint

Data Disks & Backup
Students must have some form of removable media for file backup, including at least one 3.5" HD diskette. Backup all of your work frequently! When in the lab, you will be able to backup to a network folder that is accessible from all other campus labs.
Grading
- Concept Assignments, computer lab participation/exercises, and tests: 35% of final grade
- Weekly concept exercises, assignments and quizzes. These are based on the Discovering Computer site materials and topics such as web searching and legal and ethical issues.
- MSOffice assignments: 65% of final grade
- Weekly (approx.) homework assignments based on one or more Microsoft Office applications
- Late MS_Office assignments will have 50 points deducted for each weekday late before grading
- E ach student must do his/her own work on the submitted version of an assignment

In the Lab…
- Prepare for all class sessions by checking the WebCT course area for news prior to arrival
- Bring backup media and appropriate text (25% off next assignment if missing)
- No game playing, food, drink, chat, IM, private e-mail, or cell phones
Important Notes
- Every 3 absences/ late arrivals for class or lab will result in lowering of semester grade by one step. (e.g. B- to a C+)
- Plagiarism of any sort, (especially disk copying of assignments) or the illegal possession/copying of licensed software and/or copyrighted materials, will result in a Failing grade in the course for all parties involved
