Some Ways of Learning about the String Class - Identified by Students on Minute Papers
- Look
it up in the book (p 89, and Appendix.)
- Find
other programs similar to the one that you are writing and model your
program after that.
- Ask
the professor
- If you
type an object variable name, and then a dot, a list of methods pops up,
so you can see what’s available (names of methods usually make sense
(MAR))
- Study
the actual String library (presumably the code MAR)
- Use
the help (MAR – The IDE’s help is largely about the IDE reather than about
Java)
Note also that Sun’s WWW site has documentation on all of
the classes at: http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.1/docs/api/
Also note, that if you were a professional Java programmer,
you might want to have handy a big, thick reference book – designed for
looking things up (as opposed to just starting off at the beginning like a text
book.
