Data Mining Paper

IF NOT TURNED IN AT THE START OF CLASS, YOU WILL BE CONSIDERED LATE!!!

Note, that other assignments and the project will be assigned during this time-frame, and this task will probably be time consuming, so DON’T PUT THIS OFF!!

Groups: Papers should be done individually.

Task:

Write a short paper (up to 5 pages) analyzing Data Mining tools. Identify criteria that should be used to evaluate tools, and then evaluate them (ideally, evaluate them in the context of your organization if that can be done with giving away proprietary or secret information). Emphasis should be on comparing and contrasting. You should not rely solely on vendor company information – try to make use of review articles. Include references at the end of the paper (references may be on line and/or in the trade press).  It would be valuable to include in the paper a table organizing the comparison – focusing on the differences among the software.

            In investigating, bear in mind that companies may use different terminology / buzzwords to describe their products, and they may be part of a larger tool (Database, statistical package, etc)

            The paper should be clearly written. Please have somebody help proofread if necessary.
