Welcome to CIS 658 - Machine Learning Approaches to Data Mining.

This course is about data mining, which is the process of extracting useful information from masses of data. It is related to data warehousing in that the collection of and cleaning of data, as in a data warehousing effort, supports data mining. It is related to machine learning in that most of the most popular/useful methods of data mining are machine learning methods. Machine learning is the study of computer programs that develop capabilities that they are not explicitly programmed for.

Materials will also be available on Blackboard course management system accessible via the MyLaSalle web portal.
