Early period, HaydnÕs early symphonies were often in the 3 movement form of F-S-F. However, in class we did discover one that had the 3rd movement as a minet, the dtriple meter format that is typically associated with the third ÒdancelikeÓ movement of the four movement plan.
Early works also shared characteristics of Pre-Classical works. Use of harpsichord, frequent shifting of themes, alternation between crescendo and drcrescendo and terraced dynamic changes.
As HaydnÕt career continued, the four-movement plan became standard. This 4-movement plan is called the ÒSonata CycleÓ.

The first movement is in Sonata Allegro form, with some creative twists: the second theme and the bridge changeing character (but not place) in the Sonata Allegro Form, , the pause that is usually after the bridge coming in after the first theme, the development using motives from Theme 1 but also the bridge as material to develop.
