Listening Assignment No. 5
This assignment will have you following Sonata Allegro form in a large-scale movement. A link for a YouTube recording will be supplied, as will be timings for the different sections.
The instructions are simple: take notes on what you expect to happen, what you actually hear, if you can hear the changes and transitions, etc.
For an 8-minute or so movement, listening two or three times, you should be able to get a page of observations. A little more is OK, as is a little less.
You could start by putting the timings on the paper as landmarks, then filling in the space with your observations and notes. That can keep you focused.
The important thing is to listen, and have the structure for Sonata Allegro form as your roadmap!
