For this assignment you will create a brochure for the La Salle department of English. The text you need is combined here. Remember to download the file through the browser: right-click and choose Save As (don't open it). Store your files in your folder (Users), or a jump drive. Then draw a text box and File-Place. (You can cut and paste, but Place is the proper way to import. It assures the file is properly and completely imported, including smart quotes, if they were in the original text.) Section headings can include:
The department slogan is: Integrating technology with the study of language literature and writing. Be sure to consider again Williams’ principles of Proximity, Repetition, Alignment and Contrast. Use her book chapters 1-5 for those. Also consult Williams pp. 133-136 for tips on brochures. Note for one that you should have extra wide gutters for brochure panels, and margins less than the standard .5 inch. (You need to use 2-pica margins and 3-pica gutters.) The gatefold brochure has two pages with panels as follows:
As the editor and publisher, you need to locate your own images, other than the La Salle logo if you decide to use it. Decide which format will work among these: GIF, TIFF, EPS. You can use any image you find on the Web. Be sure to right-click -> Save Picture/Image/Link As (control-click if you did not enable right-click; Safari may say "Download Linked Image as"). You should expect JPEGs for photos or photo-like art, and GIFs for line drawings or illustrations. |

Due Thursday, April 25. Be sure to test print here in color. You can try a service bureau, but be sure you have the images. If you print off-site you might want to try Export->Adobe PDF. You can try 2-sided printing from InDesign in this lab (Something like: Print->Setup->Preferences->Shortcuts->Ecosmart->2-Sided->Flip over (landscape)), or manually duplex the printing (print one page, put it back in the printer and print the second page on the other side—test this out first so the feed is correct) or glue/staple the two sheets together. | ||||||||
