The Week of February 22
- Homework:
Write a two-page paper (in Word, double spaced, 12 pt
font) on one of the following topics:
- What is the year 2000 (Y2K) problem?
- What are computer viruses?
- What is encryption? How is it done?
- Discuss privacy on the internet.
- Discuss security on the internet.
- Discuss a recent court case involving the
internet or a computer company.
You should include:
- A header with your name as well as the course
number CSC 152
- A title, centered in bold 14 pt. font
- At least one reference (it can be a web site).
Note it should be a proper reference. For
instructions on how to reference a web site see the
MLA (Modern Language Association) web site.
Due Monday March 1.
- Reading:
Microsoft Excel 97 (Shelly, Cashman and
Quasney) pp. 1.1-1.15.
- Monday:
Excel demo.
- Wednesday:
Excel lab.

- Friday:
Excel lab. Make two charts in Excel like those
in this Excel file guppy.xls
and "paste" them one at a time into a table in
Word (after "copying" them in Excel) as done in
this Word file guppy.doc.
Most of the necessary editing (changing font size,
color, etc.) of the charts can be done by right
clicking on the item you want to change and choosing
Format ... from the menu. Some additional items
can be found under Chart Options under the Chart
menu. To get the chart items into the table you will
have to deselect the "float over text" option
found under the alignment tab when you right click
on the chart.
