ENG 330

Sept. 7

September 14

Part 2

  • XHTML site of the day from Erin .

Today’s topic is working on your handcoded pages. We will look at research for your bibliography in the second part, and we will also take a look at our library’sBig6 research process including the CARDS evaluation formula. You should know how to cite and evaluate on-line resources. You should be able to describe and find databases including Lexis-Nexis Academic Universe, First Search and ProQuest. Take a look at at least two sites that discuss evaluating Web resources. And one at U. Berkeley’s library's: Web evaluation site. Use what you’ve learned to produce the Annotated Bibliography that’s due Sept. 28. Your bibliography must use MLA style.
For more on MLA, look at the Web example here.

  • I'll get back to you about logins to the alpha server.
  • When working on the hand-coded Web pages due next week, be careful of spelling (make the content real), noting all the required elements. E-mail me the file. No need to put it up on the Web.
Read on in Gaskill, Web Design Made Easy, chapters 3,5,8 (the <img /> tag),9,10 (we'll look at CSS next week) and these HTML primers: Your assignment is to follow class instructions to create a Web page that links to a picture using Notepad as described on the handcoded assignment.

Your assignment follows a lot of the content of the tutorial from the Academic Technology Network at UNC but you have to update the HTML to XHTML.
