Charlie Awards FAQ

Q: What are the Charlie Awards?
A: The Charlie Awards or Charlies is the bi-annual film festival in which students submt 6-10 minute films that are judged by a panel. After a public viewing of the five or so best films, the awards for Best Film and Best Director are awarded, hopefully a sign of greater things to come for two future film makers.

Q: What are the requirements for a film to be eligible for the festival?
A: The contest is open to the entire school. Anyone who wants to enter must talk with Bro. Gerry before beginning work. The film must be about 6 to 10 minutes in length. There can be no dialogue in the film. This will challenge the film maker to tell a story visually. There may be accompanying music, but avoid music with vocals. They often distract viewers from the story.

Q: What can the films be about?
A: Almost anything! The more creative and imaginative, the better! Last semester's films ranged from drama, to comedy, and horror. Just make sure to check with Bro. Gerry before you begin.

Q: When are the Charlie Awards and when do I have to turn my film in?
A: In case you missed it at the top, the Charlies will be held May 2, 2000 in the Dan Rodden Theater from Noon till 2:00 pm. Keep checking this page for announcements!

Q: Where can I see past winners and entries for examples and standards to look up to?
A: Watch LaSalle 56! Past entries are often showcased. Check the listings and enjoy the show!
