Auto-tune song from the summer camp I ran
En Los Trigales by Joaquim Rodrigo, a work that I played in class. Listen in particular for the motive (heard three times, but each time a little differently) at the beginning. Follow that throughout the rest of the piece. Can you follow the ABA form?
For Other Eyes, a song by Elvis Costello and the Brodsky Quartet. Listen in particular for the form, and numerous examples of word painting.

Listening Assignment No. 3: Due Tues., Feb. 25, 2014 - Program / Absolute, Classic / Romantic in your top 5.
Listening Assignment No. 4: Due Thurs., Mar. 20, 2014 - Analysis of the form for "Song No. 1" in your top 5.

Challenge 1: Title of the music: Ride of the Valkyres; Composer: Richard Wagner.

Challenge 2: Title of the music: Blue Danube Waltz; Composer: Johann Strauss II "The Waltz King".

Challenge 3: in lieu of Listening Assignment No. 5. There are two sources to this challenge. First, what is the famous classical orchestral work that is quoted in this song by Julez Santana? It's the background for the entire song. Identify the title of the original music and the composer. NEXT, identify the original source of where THAT composer got this tune. I'll take the answers in writing before Tuesday, April 22.
