One of the key features of the Openwave Mobile
Developer Toolkit is the included sample applications and source
code that illustrate how to take advantage of relevant mobile technologies
to build more valuable, user-friendly applications. Our goals are:
· To provide relevant examples that illustrate proper use
of mobile technologies and,
· To stimulate ideas of how to improve mobile services by
incorporating multiple mobile technologies.
For this edition of the Openwave Mobile Developer Toolkit, the technology
area of emphasis is XHTML/CSS, which we believe will be critical
in the coming year, as many phones will support it. We believe that
it will improve usability and richness for end-users and it allows
developers to use their HTML skills to build mobile applications.
We have also provided a brief XHTML
Tutorial.
We are providing three sample applications:
|
Restaurants: This
restaurant guide illustrates proper use of XHTML-MP/CSS and
location technology to build a user-friendly, location-based
service.
|
|
MovieLife: This
movie guide also takes advantage of XHTML-MP/CSS and location
and hints at how MMS could be incorporated to build a more valuable
movie guide.
|
|
Peer2Park: This
is an innovative service that takes advantage of location technology,
push technology and a peer-to-peer service model to help you
find parking spaces from other people in a crowded city. Occupiers
of hard-to-find parking spaces can sell them to people looking
for parking spaces. |
There are two versions of these applications:
The static versions do not illustrate server-side calls. They are
provided to allow you to use and experiment with them offline.
The dynamic versions include use of server-side technologies, such
as location APIs. They require you to have an Internet connection.
The readme files within each example explain how the applications
were developed.
